The lake of Vouglans
Lake Vouglans is a reservoir lake in the Jura Massif, located in the Jura department of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.
It was created and filled in 1968 with the commissioning of the Vouglans Dam, established on the Ain River in the Jura Massif. Its dimensions of 35 km in length and a maximum width of 900 meters, covering an area of 1,600 hectares with a capacity of 605 million m3 of water, make it the third largest artificial reservoir in France by his capacity, after Lake Serre-Ponçon and Lake Sainte-Croix.

Vouglans Hydroelectric Dam
The Vouglans Dam, a majestic hydraulic structure nestled in the heart of the Jura, stands as a tranquil guardian of the Franco-Comtois landscape. Built between 1964 and 1968, this concrete gravity dam, towering nearly 93 meters high, creates the remarkable reservoir of Lake Vouglans, the third largest artificial lake in France. The Vouglans Charterhouse is a former monastery located near Lake Vouglans, in the Jura region. It was a place of monastic life for the Carthusian monks, known for their contemplative life and silence.
Unfortunately, the Vouglans Charterhouse was destroyed during the French Revolution, but there are still some remains that testify to its fascinating history. It is a place steeped in history and spirituality. If you are interested in history and culture, it is a place to visit in the Jura region!
Lake activity
Fishing on Lake Vouglans is very popular! The lake is teeming with fish, including trout, pike, zander, and catfish. There are several prime fishing spots around the lake. You can try fishing from the shore or rent a boat to venture out further. Some fishermen recommend areas near river mouths and coves to find good fishing spots.
